Following his graduation in Brussels in 1984, he relocated to Antwerp, where he first established his artistic practice. Emerging in the early 1980s, Dams developed a multidisciplinary body of work spanning printmaking, drawing, painting and collage.<\/p>

In 1997, Dams moved to New York City\u2019s East Village, where he continues to live and work.<\/p>

Dams\u2019 practice is closely associated with a contemporary reinterpretation of neo-pointillism. His work is grounded in the systematic deployment of the dot as a formal and conceptual unit. In his drawings, he employs graphite marks in varied densities and configurations, while his collage works are composed of sequins meticulously applied to construct images from accumulations of reflective dots.<\/p>

Portraits of artists such as Ian Curtis (Joy Division) and Siouxsie Sioux (Siouxsie and the Banshees) are rendered in black iridescent sequins against silver grounds, producing works characterised by a heightened sense of luminosity and emotional intensity.<\/p>
