Schooled in the fine arts, being hugely influenced by comics and fantasy art. But profession wise, I actually have always worked in nature, from salesman in a garden center to finally a self employed ecological gardener.

It is because of my love and close connection to nature (being a vegan bare footer) that naturegoodies emerged. A project I started during the ‘great pandemic’. When the world fell victim to fear, anxiety and isolation, the slowing down of time made it possible to go on daily walks. And when walking consciously, looking around and wondering about all the beauty that nature provides for free, I started capturing what I saw on my phone. And posting a daily picture on my Instagram account, named ‘Pat Finder’.

Evening in the Village

Now, everyone can take a picture. Which I absolutely applaud, because it creates awareness for your surroundings. But I got creatively stimulated and started giving those pictures a name. A name that reflected what story the picture told me. And in doing so, the pictures came alive. The names gave them an identity, a personality. It made people who saw my daily delights smile and discuss and communicate during those dark times, in which contact with others was prohibited. It made life lighter, more colourful and easier to bear. Mine included.

Pilgrims

So, even after Covid, I kept on going. I kept on posting. Because I enjoyed looking at the world in my own way and sharing the beauty of it with people that embraced my vision. And sometimes made it their own. I even started adding a soundtrack to every picture, to enhance the storytelling aspect.

Because, especially when the world is in flames again and terror reigns supreme, it’s the little things that make it bearable. A warm ray on your face, a butterfly passing by, a flower covered in a blanket of snow.

Or a project like Healing Art Works, which focuses on the mental welfare of patiënts, visitors and medicalworkers worldwide by providing visual shots of beauty.

Remember this, as the great Bill Watterson, creator of ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ said:
‘There is treasure everywhere’!
You just need to look.

Dune

Discover more: https://www.instagram.com/pat.finder

Misty Morning (2018) by Ninette Murk

I took this photo 3 months after I had a spinal stroke in 2018.
